I am sooo passionate about encouraging you to pursue a life you love and to get out there and chase after your dreams. Sometimes our ability to dream becomes interrupted by illness, hardship, and other life stuff. When life is hard we tend to lose our ability to dream and simply focus on surviving.
I totally believe that God has given you a divine calling; a destiny that is good and beautiful and designed with the purpose of improving the world around you. He has instilled you with gifts, talents and, dare I say…desires, in your very DNA that move you toward your unique destiny. Life has a way of trying to detour us. Stuff seems to get in the way. Reality check, we all have to work through some level of hardship, loss, discouragement and nay sayers. The list is long.
BUT… every human is also gifted with a super power. That’s right…SUPER POWER, BABY! This super power helps move us forward even in the hardest of times… (drum roll please) it is your IMAGINATION.
No one has to teach a child to imagine. As infants and then toddlers, our brains develop the ability to remember and as our memory improves we begin to imagine. A toddler may remember their mother cooking supper last night and so they pretend and IMAGINE they are cooking. Imagination is important for adults too, you should never believe imagination is only for children.
You may not recognize it but you, my friend, use your imagination every day. You imagine what supper will taste like; you imagine what your wrecked car will look like repaired; you imagine how you will feel when that big project at work is finished; you imagine how great your vacation will be.
Yes, our imagination helps us get up everyday because, you have imagined something that is yet to be. Even the modern day self- help seminars will tell you to close your eyes and picture what your dream realized will look like and the more details you can IMAGINE, the better. Where will you live? What job will you be doing? Who will your friends be?
The popular, Rachel Hollis, has recently created a journal where she encourages you to write down your goals daily, as if they have all ready happened. She talks about how she implemented this concept in her own life. For years she would write, “I am on the New York Best Sellers list,” and she would IMAGINE what that would be like. Guess what, she accomplished that goal last year with her book, “Girl Wash Your Face.”
Years ago, Elon Musk, the famous technology entrepreneur, investor, and engineer, sat in LA traffic and IMAGINED a better way to travel. Later he designed and began to build the hyper loop system that sends passenger pods through tubes at high speeds, making travel faster and more efficient.
Why on earth do people invest in college, create businesses, or purchase properties? Why do they invest in IRAs, retirement funds, or move to new places? Because they IMAGINE what life will be like in the future. They go to college to get a degree or create a business because they have IMAGINED a life that they feel will be satisfying and prosperous. People invest in IRAs and retirement funds because they have IMAGINED a future in which they are financially prepared.
We need to be people that Imagine, people that think outside the box and dream of something that isn’t yet. Imagination makes you feel alive; it drives us to keep moving forward, to keep taking steps toward our future and our dreams. Our imagination allows us to envision what life will be like when our dream is realized.
I love to talk to people about their dreams. Sometimes people will tell me they don’t really have any dreams, but I believe they are there. Maybe they are covered in dust or buried by life, but inside each of us, somewhere, there is a dream. For some of you, you may have to make it a point to take time to dust them off or dig them out. I encourage you, no matter your age, to take time out every day to start to define your dreams. Start by using your imagination. IMAGINE… if you could do anything with no constraints, no barriers, all the money you needed, all the resources available to you…What would life look like? Where would you be? Who would you help? What would you create?
Use your superpower of IMAGINATION to DREAM!
