Covid 19 has rocked 2020 and impacted the way we do life. Christmas will likely be no exception to the new rule. Similar to the past Thanksgiving, we may find our 2020 Christmas gatherings also altered. Gift-giving can be a challenge even when life is “normal,” so I am here to help you out! Here are 5- holiday gifts that can’t fit under the tree and are sure to succeed in 2020. The best part, these ideas can bring creativity, health, and some plain old fun into the life of the ones you love! Woohoo! win-win!
Give the Gift of Creativity
First on the gift list is Skillshare.com. Give the one you love a one-year membership and you give them a year’s worth of creative growth. SkillShare is an online site offering thousands of classes and courses from Cooking, creative writing to entrepreneur classes.
This gift is best suited for :
- The creatives in your life
- Those that have time to actually complete some classes
- Love to learn new things
- Honestly, I think anyone would love this!
This is actually on my own wish list this year and is my number one pick for that hard to shop for person in your life. Hop on over to Skillshare and check out what they have to offer. There are classes on creative writing, music lessons, cooking classes, photography, Interior design, marketing, and business! The list goes on and on. SkillShare is currently offering 30% off a premium membership ($69.30). Be warned this is an automatic renewal, at $99.00 USD/year so you will need to be sure to cancel it after the year is up to prevent being automatically charged for another year. Per the website, you are able to cancel at any time.
Give the Gift of Self-Improvement
Who doesn’t want to become better at parenting, relationships, and leadership? One of my favorite Christian teachers is Danny Silk. His books: Culture of Honor, Keep Your Love On, Loving Your Kids On Purpose, and Powerful and Free, have taught me what it means to love others well. Danny is an author, speaker, and content creator he draws from decades of experience as a social worker, counselor, parent, and leader. Loving on Purpose Life Academy website offers on-demand courses helping individuals be better parents, create healthy, lasting relationships, and become better leaders. For $7.99/mo (cancel at any time) you can get full access to all courses or purchase one course for $49.00. (His books, mentioned above, would also make great gifts. Purchase them on Amazon.)
Give the Gift of Exercise
Give the gift of exercise with a virtual gym membership. Help your loved one exceed their New Years’ resolution with an on-demand gym membership. Virtual classes mean you can stay home and not have to commute, hire a babysitter, or wear a mask. Win-Win-Win! There are literally hundreds of on-demand exercise options out there but two of my personal favorites are:
- Studio Sweat On Demand. This link will take you straight to Studio Sweat’s gift options. They have so many awesome options available. Give a gift certificate for $25, $50, $100, or purchase an access pass ranging from 1 month, 6 months, to 1 year! This makes it affordable for every budget.
- Beach Body On Demand. – I have several family members who have tried this option and seem to like the workouts. They offer several subscription options. 12-month for $99/annually. 6-months for $59/ semi-annually. or 3-months for $39/ quarterly.
You can check out sample classes on youtube. I happen to like Studio Sweat because it reminds me of the gym I attended before the Covid Pandemic. Studio Sweat On Demand offers real instructors conducting real classes based out of sunny San Diego, California.
Give the Gift of Healthy Eating
I love gifts that are unique and support the life I am carving out. So if you have some health food nuts in your life then supporting them in their endeavor is sure to be a hit. Sharing healthy eating with the one you love is a great idea but keeping it local kicks it up a notch. Eating healthy can get expensive so help cut grocery costs for your loved one and offer some options for their cupboard and freezer. Check out the website LocalHarvest.org Simply put in your zip code and it will list local farms and CSA’s in your area. I found local farms selling fruits, veggies, and grass-fed beef all within a short drive from my home.
The site can even tell you about local farm markets or grower events happening in your area. How awesome would it be to receive a subscription to a local CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) for the year or get some locally raised grass-fed beef for your freezer or local maple syrup in the cupboard? Pretty Sweet! Supporting local businesses is a two-fold gift. You are helping sustain the awesome businesses in your area and also giving quality gifts.
If CSA subscriptions and meat for the freezer are a little too intimidating then how about a gift card to your local health food store? They often have sweet little gift baskets you can pick up or purchase a few hand-selected items and create your own unique whole foods basket. This is a great way to allow people to sample some items they may not otherwise purchase and get them hooked on local growers. For those of you in my area, check out The Two Owls local grocery and general store, you won’t be disappointed!
Give the Gift of Fun
Give the gift of fun with Jackbox Games. This next one is super fun! My extended family played this at our family Christmas party last year and we all had a blast. Jackbox Party Pack at Jackbox Games is a great way for 1-8 players (or more if you simply create teams) to play fun games together either in person or remotely. All they need is a web-enabled device to play along (like a cell phone, iPad, or computer). The host starts the game and sends the code out to the participants enabling them to connect to the game and play along.
According to the Jackbox Games website, “We make a variety of games designed to appeal to everyone in the room, Zoom call, or Twitch stream. Drawing games, writing games, trivia games, hidden identity games… no party-goer gets left behind.
Every year since 2014, we’ve released a new collection of games, grouped together as a Jackbox Party Pack. In each pack, you’ll find 5 different games that can accommodate from 1-8 players. If you have more people in your group, then (1) congrats on your effortless popularity and (2) many of our games allow audience play-along, meaning they can still jump in and be part of the fun!“
According to their directions, “You can run Jackbox games on desktop PCs and laptops, gaming consoles like Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and even streaming devices like Apple TV or Amazon Fire TV.“
Pricing ranges from $9.99 – 24.99 USD for stand-alone games to $24.99-29.99 USD for game bundles. Only one individual needs to purchase the game to be the Host and then they simply send the code out to the players to enable them to play along.
Think outside the box
It’s not easy to choose gifts that people will love. Don’t waste money on presents that will end up at the back of someone’s closet, instead, give something that will make a lasting impact on the ones you love. Think outside the box (pun intended). This year consider choosing a holiday gift that can’t fit under the tree!
